Labor Day and Football

What would one do if they wanted more information on Labor Day? I’m not sure what you would do, but I’m guessing you’d hop on the internet and type in something along the lines of “what is the meaning of labor day” in your search engine and VoilĂ ! And since we all know that Wikipedia is one of the most reliable sources out there, it’s at the top of the list. It had a good bit of information about the history of the holiday, how it used to be celebrated, and how it is traditionally celebrated now. To most Americans, the holiday is considered the end of summer and viewed as a day of rest and relaxation. Some ways that many people celebrate the holiday include “picnics, barbecues, fireworks displays, water sports, and public art events.”

It also informed me that “in U.S. sports, Labor Day marks the beginning of the NFL and college football seasons.” As the girlfriend of a football coach, I’m trying to prepare myself for the upcoming season and changing the tv station to anything but ESPN every chance I get. And if ESPN wasn’t enough, they air high school football games on ESPN2.

Now don’t get me wrong, I like football and enjoy watching an occasional game I just don’t have any desire to watch it Thursday, Friday, and Monday nights and all day Saturday and Sunday, then see highlights on Tuesdays and Wednesdays. We, undoubtely, love our football in the U.S.

I guess the perk to all of this is, that I’ll be getting plenty of blogging done over the next few months. And since Christmas will be here before we know it, I can begin working on gift ideas and ornament designs.

What are everyone’s plans for Labor Day? Who’s thrilled about football season (besides my boyfriend)? I’m super excited about what’s in store this weekend – I’ll fill you in with details and maybe some pictures later.

And because I care, here’s a Weekend Tip: If you light a grill at any point over the weekend, keep your hair away from the flames – just trust me!

Have a safe and fun-filled holiday weekend!
