***UPDATE: The Giveaway has ended, but please feel free to comment!***
Happy Autumnal Equinox! Fall officially begins at 11:09pm tonight. Over the years, I’ve heard several people say that, on both the autumnal equinox and the spring equinox, day and night are each exactly 12 hours long. I’ve always wondered about this, so the researcher in me did a little digging. And what I discovered is – those people are all wrong! The only way that would technically be accurate is if the sun were a single point of light and if Earth’s atmosphere didn’t exist. However, on both equinoxes, the days and nights are closer to 12 hours than any other days of the year. I did find some other interesting facts that apply to both Equinoxes though:
The spring and autumn equinoxes are the only two times during the year when the sun rises due east and sets due west.
The equinoxes are also the only days of the year when a person standing on the Equator can see the sun passing directly overhead. (doesn’t this make you want to go stand on the Equator?)
On the Northern Hemisphere’s autumnal equinox day, a person at the North Pole would see the sun skimming across the horizon, signaling the start of six months of darkness.
On the same day, a person at the South Pole would also see the sun skim the horizon, beginning six months of uninterrupted daylight.
Among adults 70 years and older, 3 in 10 fall each year.
Wait. How’d that fall fact get in there?
With Fall comes beautifully colored leaves, warm fuzzy sweatshirts, deer hunting season, apple cider, hay rides, brisk nights, brown grass that doesn’t need to be mowed, football games…..and Fall Giveaways!
It’s that time of year, the kids are back in school. Not my kids. I don’t have kids. Someone’s kids are back in school, which means school shopping has come and gone. But, not without me buying a “few” things, including a little something for my blogger friends.
You see, I tried finding another purse just like this one:
When I bought this purse for myself last year, my boyfriend expressed how much he disliked it. Since then, I’ve received countless compliments on it. Strangers will approach me just to tell me they love my purse. It always makes me smile – especially when my boyfriend’s around!
But I bought it last season and couldn’t find another one to giveaway. Anywhere. Trust me. I looked.
So I bought this one instead. Same brand, similar style, very versatile, but not quite as bulky. I love gray/silvery colored purses – they work with everything!
After contemplating keeping it for myself, I decided to give it away along with a necklace like this since it seems “fall-like” to me. It’s a purplish glass tile with copper accents, encased in a silver-plated frame. It won’t be this actual necklace, since this one has been sold, but it will look very similar!
The rules are simple. To enter, just comment here and answer the following question:
What do you most look forward to in the Fall?
If you’d like additional entries into the giveaway, here are some more options. If you do any of the following things, be sure to come back here and comment for each one so you receive your additional entry. You don’t have to be a new follower or fan to enter.
1) Follow my blog (1+ entry)
2) Like my Facebook page (1+ entry)
3) Follow Remaking Memories on Twitter (1+ entry)

Oh, Fall, how I LOVE thee! Where do I start? The colors, the crisp, cool air, the apples and pumpkins? Or birthdays? My husbands, mine, my best friend’s (her’s is on the same day as me, same hospital, so I always have a birthday buddy). Oh, and then there’s my wedding anniversary, too! Fall is just the BEST! And that purse and necklace would be devine!
Haha! I just saw that the contest ends on my birthday! Now I REALLY think that purse would make a great birthday gift
Cider, cider doughnuts, fresh apples, and being able to curl up on the couch with a blanket on chilly fall nights.
I love the smells of Autumn! Nutmeg, cinnamon, apples…Mmmm! I would say the changing weather and the leaves, but we don’t get much of that in Arizona… Pooh. Thanks for hosting the giveaway. I hope I win!

Well being in the south I don’t get the crisp clean air or changing colors. That is one of the things I miss the most about being home. With that said, you can’t take Halloween away from me! It’s hands down my favorite part about Fall.
I look forward to breaking out all my new hoodies and Sweaters that have been packed away from the sale I went to in the spring..=)

Fall is hands down my favorite season. I live in S Florida and there is not one ounce of season change here. Palm trees just do not change colors!
I adore the season change, the vibrant colors fading from green to red that Mother Nature bestows upon us. The visual of the weather changing, even in a photograph, brings a feeling of well being, of love, of the warmth that the following months will bring… the Holidays…. Thanksgiving and Christmas. Although December seems to be a very hectic month for many, it brings so much joy at the same time. Many people overlook the wonders around them. I for one do not.
I have noticed that during ‘this’ season people change as a whole. We do not seem to be the fast pace, gotta rush, have no time to stop and smell the flowers kind of people most of the year, (even though it is a hectic season of rush). Somehow during the Fall season society as a whole seems to become something all together different. Perhaps humanity seems to take over(of course this is not 100% everyone, there ARE scrooges out there). I see more people opening and holding doors, smiles from strangers, waves and hellos by passersby, families connecting or reconnecting, friendships growing stronger, etc.
That alone brings major warm fuzzies to my heart.
I love fall, my favorite season! I love the leaves changing color and just the colors of fall and pumpkins!
I most look forward to APPLES! And haunted houses and Halloween costumes

And the thing I look most forward to about fall is the cooler temperatures. I also love the beautiful colors of the trees, the deep shadows in the late afternoon, going to the pumpkin farms and corn mazes….I could go on and on. I think fall is my favorite season!
My favorite fall memories are making homemade spiced cider and going to apple orchards/pumpkin farms to pick out pumpkins and apples. And then toasting the pumpkin seeds!
…and i’m following you on facebook.
…and i just subscribed to your blog!
My FAAAAAVORITE thing about fall is driving up north in Michigan. I absolutely looove walking through the woods with a hoodie on just to look at all of the fall colors.
p.s. im following you on fb as well
I spend the whole summer dreading the end of summer…but when fall arrives I remember how truly magical this season is and how I need take it all in! I look forward to the chill in the air…I love being able to get out my big warm blanket and cuddle up with my kiddos! I enjoy being able to be outside again and not have to hide in the shade to cool off…I also love, love, love fall because of the wonderful colorful gifts that pop up in all of the trees and the eager anticipation for Halloween!
The smell. Outside it is often burning leaves which in itself is not all that good, but I associate that smell with the wonderful cool weather, bright leaves, and crunchy leaves we used to have to rake as kids. Inside the smell is a combination of (not always in my house…just in my mind) apple-something in the oven, cinnamon, and spiced cider! I’m hungry just thinking about it.
I follow on FB, too!
I love to do the typical fall season events with my twins, but my favorite is a trip to the pumpkin farm. There are leaves everywhere, corn, pumpkins, hay rides and petting zoos. I love to capture these memories for my scrapbooks! Priceless.

I love the cool wind, finally being able to wear sweaters and boots, playing in the crisp leaves that have fallen to the ground. The beautiful colors: green, yellow, red, and orange that decorate the town. Hay rides, apple picking, and trips to the cider mill for warm donuts and hot apple cider. Halloween and haunted houses. I live on a resort island in south Florida and I look forward to the return of our seasonal residents (snowbirds) as they start returning to their winter homes in October. It’s so nice to see everyone and hear what’s happened in their lives the past few months. Also, our weather moderates a little in the fall and the days are so perfect for the beach, it’s tough to go to work even a single day.

I love the colors of fall and the smells, the feel of the crispness in the air and the sense of change in the wind. I love watching the leaves change, while the birds and the butterflies flock to begin their most amazing annual migration!
I also believe that the New Year really does begin in Autumn and so many of us tend to begin new (ad)ventures in fall/after Labor Day (marking the “end” of summer) as we start school, new jobs, makes moves. Fall is just a very special season and time of year.
